Automotive components

Technologies for automated driving, vehicle to vehicle communication and decarbonisation: these are key priorities for the Luxembourg Automotive Components Cluster (LAC). The cluster identifies synergies, facilitates the pooling of resources and pilots key projects in order to create and develop new, sustainable business opportunities.

Together with LAC members, we developed a common technological vision and strategic positioning of Luxembourg’s automotive industry.

Our technology workshops, visits to more than 15 companies and the creation of a competence matrix confirmed that vehicle connectivity – a field well aligned with the “Digital Lëtzebuerg” strategy – offers significant growth opportunities.

We encouraged relevant players to actively join the LAC and stimulated exchange between cluster members on a variety of subjects, including lean methodology and Six Sigma.

We initiated discussions with industrial and academic partners about the development of demonstration projects on connected, automated and green mobility.

The aim of these projects is to increase the visibility and international recognition of the Luxembourg automotive sector. The intention is also to strengthen the national ecosystem by fostering cooperation among national players and attracting new companies and young talented professionals.

In addition, we supported the development of start-ups by doing pro-active B2B matching with well-established cluster members.

In May 2016, the LAC signed a cooperation agreement with Autocity Shanghai.

The aim is to establish long-term relations with Chinese automotive giant SAIC and other automobile companies in the Shanghai region.

We were present at SAECCE, a major automotive fair in Shanghai, and took part in Luxembourg economic missions to Bremen, Germany as well as to Shanghai. We also organised visits for cluster members to the Automotive Campus Helmond and the Eindhoven High-Tech Campus in the Netherlands to study best practices and the concept of open innovation.
